Our Vision for Tomorrow
More than a place
to stay. A place to begin again.
Everyone deserves
somewhere they can feel safe.
But for people facing
homelessness, family rejection, personal crises or other serious difficulties,
finding that safety can be an enormous challenge.
And even when
temporary accommodation is available, the journey towards stability can require
much more than a roof.
It may require
understanding, professional support, education, employment opportunities and
people willing to believe that a better future is possible.
A community built around second chances.
One of our long-term
aspirations is to develop a supportive residential community for people facing
difficult life circumstances.
We imagine a place
where temporary accommodation could be combined with opportunities for personal
development, professional support and practical assistance.
What could such a place offer?
Our vision is of a
community that brings together safe temporary housing with access to
appropriate support.
Depending on
individual needs and the partnerships available, this could include counselling
and wellbeing services, life-skills development, vocational education,
employment guidance and connections with professional organisations.
The goal would be to
create a supportive environment where people are treated as individuals, with
dignity, compassion and respect for their choices.
A place where people belong.
We believe support
should be available without prejudice.
A person rejected by
their family should not have to hide who they are to deserve safety.
Someone facing a
personal crisis should be treated with compassion rather than stigma.
And people
experiencing difficulties with substance use or other serious challenges should
have access to appropriate specialist support and healthcare, not judgment.
A supportive community
should be built around acceptance, safety and the right kind of help.
From crisis towards opportunity.
Our aspiration is not
to create a place where people remain indefinitely because they have nowhere
else to turn.
It is to help create a
pathway towards greater stability, wherever possible and appropriate.
That might mean
developing a skill, completing training, preparing for employment or finding
suitable longer-term accommodation.
Progress will look
different for each person.
And the success of
such a community would depend on qualified professionals, responsible
safeguarding, appropriate partnerships and a sustainable operating model.
A vision worth pursuing.
This remains a
long-term aspiration for One Terrene International.
We have not yet
established the residential facility described here, and this page should not
be interpreted as an announcement of an operational programme or a commitment
to a particular opening date.
We share this vision
because it reflects what we believe charitable work can become when compassion
and opportunity are brought together.
Everyone deserves
the chance for a new beginning.
